Working on my undergraduate thesis proposal, titled "The Efficacy of a 12-Week Core- and Gluteal-Based Pilates Exercise Program in the Prevention of Chronic Low Back Pain in Equestrian Athletes," under the supervision of Dr. Gillian Hatfield in KIN 401: Undergraduate Thesis I was an enriching experience. an avid equestrian myself, I recognized the prevalence of low back pain in riders and the potential for Pilates exercises to mitigate this issue. The proposal process involved conducting a substantial literature review, designing an exercise program, outlining the study protocol, and estimating the resources required to carry out the research.
Through this process, I developed critical thinking and research skills by gaining a deeper understanding of the modern literature and experimental processes in Kinesiology. I also learned the importance of collaboration and communication in the research proposal process. Although the study was not carried out, the experience of proposing a research project has prepared me for future academic and professional endeavours.
